2 Use or Configuration Problems Troubleshooting BIOS Problems Recovering the BIOS (Crisis Mode) If for some reason the BIOS is corrupted and the standard flash cannot be used, use the BIOS Recovery Mode (exceptional BIOS recovery operation) to restore the BIOS. To do this: 1 Download the latest BIOS for your PC from the web site www.hp.com/go/vectrasupport. This web site also contains information and instructions for flashing the BIOS. 2 Run the downloaded file and follow the instructions to extract the BIOS files. One of these files contains information and instructions for flashing the BIOS. 3 Copy the BIOS files onto a bootable floppy disk. 4 Create or modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that it contains a single line of text: "phlash /c /mode=3 /s IQ0105US.FUL". This example is for the BIOS version IQ 01 05 US. Use the filename that corresponds to the BIOS version you have downloaded. 5 Rename the BIOS filename with the one on the floppy disk. 6 Shut down the PC. 7 Power off the PC and remove the power cord. 8 Remove the cover. 9 Set switch 7 to the ON position. 10 Insert the floppy disk into the floppy disk drive. 11 Reconnect the power cord and switch on the PC. 12 The PC boots from the floppy disk, then flashes the BIOS. However, it should be noted, that during the flash process, the screen remains blank. 13 The recovery process is finished when there is one long beep. 14 Power off the PC. Remove the floppy disk from the drive. Remove the power cord. 15 Set switch 7 back to the OFF position. 16 Replace the cover, reconnect the power cord, then reboot the PC. 33

Recovering the BIOS (Crisis Mode)

be used, use the BIOS Recovery Mode (exceptional BIOS recovery
