Chapter 2: Installation 21 Tiering earlier model switches 1. Mount the earlier-model switches according to the instructions included with those devices. The current-model switch should already be mounted. 2. Attach the keyboard, monitor, and mouse connectors of a PS/2 console switch cable or CO to a local port on the earlier-model switch. 3. If using a CO, insert one RJ-45 end of a CAT 5 cable into the CO. 4. Connect the RJ-45 connector on the free end of the CAT 5 cable to an ARI port on the current- model rack console switch. 5. Connect servers to the earlier-model switch according to the instructions included with that switch. 6. Power cycle the earlier-model switch to enable its local port to recognize the switch cable or CO. 7. Repeat steps 2 to 6 for all earlier-model switches you want to attach. Tiering earlier model switches
1.
Mount the earlier-model switches according to the instructions included with those devices.
The current-model switch should already be mounted.
2.
Attach the keyboard, monitor, and mouse connectors of a PS/2 console switch cable or CO to a
local port on the earlier-model switch.
3.
If using a CO, insert one RJ-45 end of a CAT 5 cable into the CO.
4.
Connect the RJ-45 connector on the free end of the CAT 5 cable to an ARI port on the current-
model rack console switch.
5.
Connect servers to the earlier-model switch according to the instructions included with
that switch.
6.
Power cycle the earlier-model switch to enable its local port to recognize the switch cable
or CO.
7.
Repeat steps 2 to 6 for all earlier-model switches you want to attach.
