46 IBM Rack Console Switch Installation and User's Guide Setting the scan duration 1. Access the Setup->Scan window as described in the two previous procedures. 2. Type a value in the Scan Time field. The duration minimum is 3 seconds and the maximum is 255 seconds. Starting the scan mode 1. Access the Commands window. If needed, see "Accessing the Commands window" on page 40. 2. Click Scan Enable. 3. Click X to close the Commands window. NOTE: Scanning begins when the Main window or flag is displayed. Scanning is not permitted in any other OSCAR interface window. Canceling scan mode 1. Select a server if the OSCAR interface is open. -orMove the mouse or press any key on the keyboard if the OSCAR interface is not open. Scanning stops at the currently selected server. -orPress Print Screen. The Main window opens. 2. Click Commands. The Commands window opens. 3. Clear the Scan Enable check box. 4. Click X to close the Commands window. Running System Diagnostics You can validate the integrity of your system through the Run Diagnostics command on the Commands window. This command checks the main board functional subsystems (memory, communications, switch control and the video channels) for each system controller. When you select the Run Diagnostics button, you receive a warning that running diagnostics disconnects all connected users (remote and local). Click OK to begin the test. The Diagnostics window displays. The top section of the window displays the hardware tests. The bottom portion divides the tested CO and console switch cables into three categories: On-line, Offline or Suspect. NOTE: COs and console switch cables may appear to be offline while being upgraded.
