CAUTION The constant force spring is powerful and under high tension. Protect your hands with gloves. To avoid pinching or cutting your fingers, grip the spring and drum firmly in the next two steps. Coil the spring slowly and carefully. Do not let the spring twist or crimp. 3. Remove the shoulder screw, large washer, spacer, and small washer from the constant force spring and drum. Let the spring coil itself up until it reaches the top of its travel on the vertical rail. (Figure 83.) 4. Firmly gripping the spring and drum, remove the rail screw and washer securing the spring to the vertical rail. (Figure 83.) 5. Position a new constant force spring on the vertical rail and install the rail screw and washer. (Figure 83.) 6.
