If the problem persists, refer to the Main Wire Harness Test Diagnostic (page 256) to complete the following substeps: a. Power down and unplug the printer. b. Measure the resistance of the following motors: left and right ribbon motors, platen motor, paper feed motor. Compare the readings with the values in the two tables mentioned in the test diagnostic. Replace any defective motors. c. Inspect all cables going from the above motors to the controller board. Replace any damaged cables. d. If no problems are found, do a cable shorts test (page 254) on the intermediate cables of the ribbon motors and shuttle motor. Replace any damaged cables. 8. Power on the printer. If the problem persists, check the shuttle for electrical shorts (page 252). Replace the shuttle if it is defective. 9. Power on the printer. If the problem persists, refer to the Main Wire Harness Test Diagnostic (page 256) and check the shuttle motor. Replace the shuttle assembly if the motor is out of spec. 10. Power on the printer. If the problem persists, inspect the controller board for burned components. If any are found, contact Level 2 support for possible isolation of an additional failing component (e.g., a motor) that may be damaging the board. NOTE: If Level 2 directs you to replace the controller board remember that you must power up in download mode, obtain the latest code from IBM First (page 231), then load flash memory (page 238). 11. Power on the printer. If the problem persists, replace the shuttle frame assembly. 84
