7 DSC OPERATION ■■Sending DSC calls (Distress) DDRegular call Select the nature of the Distress call to include in the Regular Distress call. 1. Push . •• The "COMPOSE DISTRESS" screen is displayed. LLTo display the screen from the Menu screen: [MENU] > Compose Distress Step 1. Setting a "Nature of Distress" 1. Select "Nature of Distress." Rotate Step 3. Setting a communication frequency 1. Select "Attempt." Rotate + Push 2. Select an option. (Example: Multi Frequency) •• The setting is saved and returns to the previous screen. Rotate + Push 2. Select the nature of the Distress. (Example: Fire, Explosion) •• The setting is saved and returns to the previous screen. Rotate + Push + Push Step 4. Sending 1. While lifting up the key cover, hold down [DISTRESS] for 3 seconds until you hear 3 short countdown beeps and a long beep sound. •• The backlight blinks. Step 2. Entering a "Postion" NOTE: When your position data and time are valid, you can skip this step and go to step 3. 1. Select "Position." Rotate + Push 2. After sending, wait for an Acknowledgment call. •• "Waiting for Distress ACK" is displayed. •• The Distress call is automatically sent every 3.5 to 4.5 minutes, until an Acknowledgment is received, or a Distress Cancel call is sent. 2. Enter your position data and time. •• See page 26 for entering details. 3. When you receive an Acknowledgment, an alarm sounds. Push to turn OFF the alarm. 30
