3 Remove the retaining clip and the heat sink. Slots Socket 7 Socket 7 4 Release the lever on the side of the microprocessor connector and lift it all the way up. This releases the microprocessor. Lift the microprocessor out of the socket. Microprocessor Lever Socket 7 Socket 7 5 Store the old microprocessor in a static-protective package. 6 Touch the static-protective package containing the new microprocessor to any unpainted metal surface in the computer, and then remove the new microprocessor.
