Image Quality The following image quality options are available: Option File type Description Raw data from the image sensor are saved directly to the memory card in Nikon Electronic d NEF (RAW) Format (NEF). Use with images that will be transferred to a computer for printing or NEF processing. Note that once transferred to a computer, NEF (RAW) images can only be viewed using compatible software such as ViewNX (supplied; pg. 238) or Capture NX 2 (available separately; pg. 388). Record uncompressed TIFF-RGB images at a bit TIFF (RGB) TIFF depth of 8 bits per channel (24-bit color). TIFF is (RGB) supported by a wide variety of imaging applications. JPEG fine Record JPEG images at a compression ratio of roughly 1:4 (fine image quality). * JPEG normal JPEG Record JPEG images at a compression ratio of roughly 1:8 (normal image quality). * JPEG basic Record JPEG images at a compression ratio of roughly 1:16 (basic image quality). * NEF (RAW)+ Two images are recorded, one NEF (RAW) image JPEG fine and one fine-quality JPEG image. NEF (RAW)+ NEF/ Two images are recorded, one NEF (RAW) image JPEG normal JPEG and one normal-quality JPEG image. NEF (RAW)+ Two images are recorded, one NEF (RAW) image JPEG basic and one basic-quality JPEG image. * Size priority selected for JPEG compression.
