The Basics of Shooting and Playback Step 4 Focus and Shoot 1 Press the shutter-release button halfway to adjust the focus. • "Pressing halfway" is the action of pressing the shutter-release button slightly until you feel resistance and then holding in that position. • When the subject is in focus, the focus area or focus indicator (A8) lights in green. If the focus area or focus indicator flashes in red, the subject is out of focus. Do not open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover or remove the battery or memory card while an indicator is flashing. Doing this could result in loss of data, or in damage to the camera or the memory card. C AF-assist Illuminator In dark places, the AF-assist illuminator (A1, 104) may light when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway. C To Make Sure You Do Not Miss a Shot If you are concerned that you might miss a shot, press the shutter-release button all the way without first pressing it halfway. 26

shutter-release button slightly until you feel
resistance and then holding in that position.
When the subject is in focus, the focus area or
focus indicator (

focus area or focus indicator flashes in red, the
subject is out of focus. Press the shutter-
release button halfway again.
