Taking Images with Manual Focus Available when the shooting mode is A, B, C, D, E, F, N, special effects mode, Sports scene mode, movie mode or movie custom setting mode. 1 Press the multi selector I (p), select E (manual focus), and then press the k button. • An enlarged view of the center area of the frame is displayed. Manual focus Shooting Features 2 Use the multi selector to adjust the focus while checking the enlarged view. • Press H to move the focus farther away and press I to move it closer. • The focus can be adjusted in higher detail by rotating the multi selector than pressing HI. 1/250 F5.6 1280 • When K is pressed, first the camera focuses with autofocus, and then the manual focus can be operated. When a confirmation dialog is displayed, select Yes and press the k button so that the camera focuses on the subject in the center of the frame with autofocus. • Press the shutter-release button halfway to check the composition. Press the shutter-release button all the way to take the image. 3 Press the k button. • The set focus is locked. • Press the shutter-release button all the way to take the image. • To readjust the focus, press the k button to display the screen in step 2. C E (Manual Focus) 1/250 F5.6 1280 • The digits displayed for the gauge on the right of the monitor in step 2 serve as a guideline for the distance to a subject that is in focus when the gauge indicates the center. To change the unit of this gauge, use MF distance indicator units in the setup menu (A99). • The actual range at which the subject can be in focus varies depending on the aperture value and zoom position. To see whether the subject is in focus, check the image after shooting. 66
