Wireless modem setup for Nokia 6310i phone 10 Wireless modem setup for Nokia 6310i phone Important: This feature is available only if your service provider's network supports General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) or circuit-switched data (CSD) digital data and fax services. A subscription to these services may also be necessary. Please check with your service provider prior to making or receiving digital data and fax calls or for more information on digital data rates in your network. Your phone can function as a wireless modem when connected to your PC via infrared. Once your phone is installed and configured properly, your phone works in conjunction with your existing data software, allowing you to connect to a corporate network, the Internet, or check e-mail wherever you are. • DOWNLOAD MODEM SETUP FOR NOKIA 6310i APPLICATION Nokia provides a software application that automatically installs your phone as a wireless modem. Before you can make digital data or fax calls, you must download and install Modem Setup for Nokia 6310i, available in the US market's PC download section of: http://www.nokia.com/us Learn about IR and Windows 2000 Professional Windows 2000 Professional operating system users who wish to connect to a PC using IR, please see "Infrared and Windows 2000 Professional operating system" on page 33 for more information on modem setup for your operating system. If you only want to use IR as your connection between PC and phone, the modem setup application is not needed. If you plan on using both cable and IR, first follow the instructions in the section entitled "Infrared and Windows 2000 Professional operating system" on page 33, then run the modem setup application. However do not select the infrared option, as your phone is already installed as "Standard modem over IR link." Observe existing Bluetooth wireless modem connections Your Bluetooth adapter may have already installed the necessary software to make a dial-up networking (DUN) connection for use with your favorite data applications. The Modem Setup for Nokia 6310i application should be used only for wireless modem setup using either IR or DLR-3P cable. 10 • LEARN ABOUT INSTALLATION OPTIONS To provide yourself with the option of using either the DLR-3P or infrared to make your connection, please select both the cable and IR options when running the modem setup application. You may find it to your advantage to have both connection methods available. Example: You have chosen IR as your connection method, yet you cannot find a flat work surface so you can align the IR ports of your phone and PC. You decide to connect using the DLR-3P cable instead. However, you cannot modify your existing IR modem configuration and change the serial connection to DLR-3P. To use the DLR-3P cable, you must already have selected the DLR-3P cable option from the modem setup application. • INSTALL YOUR PHONE AS A WIRELESS MODEM Prior to running the setup program: • DLR-3P cable users - please connect the cable to your phone and PC • Windows 98 users - please enable IR communications on your PC by double- clicking the IR icon in the system tray Important: If you wish to connect your phone and PC using IR, make sure that your PC's IR port is functioning properly and that there are no device conflicts. Windows cannot detect your phone if the IR port is not functioning properly or conflicting with another device.
