This button is also used together with other buttons for the following operations. Reverse direction high-speed search: Press and hold the PLAY button, and press this button. A high-speed (50×) search in the reverse direction is carried out. Displaying the first frame of the first clip: Press and hold the SHIFT button, and press this button. 2. PLAY button Press this button, turning it on, to start playback. 3. NEXT button Press this button, turning it on, to jump to the first frame of the next clip. During chase playback, the playback jumps to the last playable frame at that time. This button is also used together with other buttons for the following operations. Forward direction high-speed search: Press and hold the PLAY button, and press this button. A high-speed (50×) search in the forward direction is carried out. Displaying the last frame of the last clip: Press and hold the SHIFT button, and press this button. 4. STOP button Press this button, turning it on, to stop recording/ playback. The frame at the stop point is displayed. If setup menu item 105 REFERENCE ALARM is set to ON, the button flashes if the clip is not synchronized to the reference signal. 5. REC (record) button Press and hold this button and press the PLAY button to start recording. The recording is stored in an unrecorded part of the media. To stop recording, press the STOP button. 6. SHTL/JOG (shuttle/jog) button Press this button, turning it on, to perform shuttle or jog playback with the shuttle/jog dial. 2. VAR/JOG (variable-speed/jog) button Press this button, turning it on, to perform variable-speed or jog playback with the shuttle/ jog dial. 3. JOG indicator Lights up in green when the shuttle/jog dial is in jog mode. 4. Jog/shuttle direction indicators These indicate the playback direction in jog, shuttle, or variable-speed mode.  (green): Lights up during playback in the reverse direction.  (green): Lights up during playback in the forward direction.  (red): Lights up during still image display. 5. Shuttle/jog dial The dial switches between shuttle/variable-speed mode and jog mode each time that you press the dial. Shuttle/variable-speed mode: The dial is in the raised position. Jog mode: The dial is in the depressed position (JOG indicator is lit). Turn the dial clockwise to play in the forward direction, and turn it counterclockwise to play in the reverse direction. ˎˎIn jog mode, the playback speed varies from -1 to +1 times normal speed, according to the rotation speed of the dial. There are no detent positions. ˎˎIn shuttle mode, the playback speed varies in the range ±20 times normal speed, according to the rotation angle of the dial. When the dial is in the center position, still image playback is displayed. ˎˎIn variable-speed mode, you can make fine adjustments to the playback speed in the range from -2 to +2 times normal speed, according to the rotation angle of the dial. When the dial is in the center position, still image playback is displayed. Regardless of the playback mode, you will normally press the SHTL/JOG or VAR/JOG button before turning the dial. But it is also possible to put the unit into shuttle, jog, or variable-speed mode simply by turning the dial (by setting setup menu item 101 SELECTION FOR SEARCH DIAL ENABLE to "dial"). [Note] If you do set the above item to "dial", then you should return the shuttle/jog dial to the center position after conducting shuttle or variable-speed playback. If you do not return the dial to the center position, playback in shuttle or variablespeed mode can start in rare cases because of vibration during other operations causing movement of the dial.
