English Guide to Using this Manual Pictograms The meanings of the pictograms attached to or embossed on the machine are explained in this manual. Depending on the model concerned, the following pictograms may be on your machine. Key Symbols in Text Many operating and safety instructions are supported by illustrations. The individual steps or procedures described in the manual may be marked in different ways: N A bullet marks a step or procedure. A description of a step or procedure that refers directly to an illustration may contain item numbers that appear in the illustration. Example: N Loosen the screw (1). N Lever (2) ... In addition to the operating instructions, this manual may contain paragraphs that require your special attention. Such paragraphs are marked with the symbols and signal words described below: DANGER Indicates an imminent risk of severe or fatal injury. WARNING Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in severe or fatal injury. NOTICE Indicates a risk of property damage, including damage to the machine or its individual components. Engineering Improvements STIHL's philosophy is to continually improve all of its products. Important Safety Instructions WARNING When using electric lawn mowers, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury, including the following: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS 1. Avoid Dangerous Environments - Do not use lawn mowers in damp or wet locations. 2. Do Not Use In Rain. 3. Keep Children Away - All visitors should be kept a safe distance from work area. 4. Dress Properly - Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. They can be caught in moving parts. Use of gloves and footwear is recommended when working outdoors. 5. Use Safety Glasses - Always use face or dust mask if operation is dusty. 6. Use Right Appliance - Do not use lawn mower for any job except that for which it is intended. 7.
