134 Locking the Exposure Setting (AE Lock) Available Shooting Modes p. 300 You can set the exposure and focus separately. This is effective when the contrast is too strong between the subject and background or when a subject is backlit. Be sure to set the flash to so that the flash does not fire. When the flash fires, the FE lock will be used (p. 136). 1 Turn on the LCD monitor. 2 Aim the camera at the subject on which you wish to lock the exposure. 3 Press the shutter button halfway and press the button. • The exposure setting will lock and will display. 4 Re-aim the camera to compose the shot as desired and shoot. To Release the AE Lock: Operate a button other than the button or the control dial. z In movie mode, AE lock can also be set/canceled (p. 106). z After locking the AE, you can change the ISO speed with exposure fixed.
