Copy Protection A tab on the 3.5" diskette is used for protection of data. This is a mechanical method of protecting the disk from additions, deletions and alterations of existing data. The figure below shows a diskette with the write protect tab. To enable write protection, slide the tab toward the outermost position so that you can see through the write protect hole. To disable write protection, slide the tab in the opposite direction so that the hole is covered. Note that write protection does not prevent loss of data from accidents such as coffee spills, fires and nuclear holocausts.
