System administration Gateway Systems Manager Gateway Systems Manager 3.0 (GSM) lets you locally (using the Server console) and remotely (using the Administrator console) monitor the health and performance of your servers. From the Administrator console you can monitor any server that has one of the two consoles installed. You can monitor critical indicators such as: ■ Hardware and software inventory and configuration changes ■ Computer health (temperature, voltage, free memory, and disk space) ■ Selected system events (specified by the administrator) Printed documentation comes with the Gateway Systems Manager CD. You can find additional documentation in the program's online help. Server security Using BIOS security passwords To prevent unauthorized use of the server, you can set server startup passwords. Set up an administrator password to prevent unauthorized access to the BIOS Setup utility. For information about resetting BIOS passwords, see "Changing jumper settings" on page 60. To set the BIOS security passwords: 1 Restart your server, then press F2 when the Gateway logo screen appears during startup. The BIOS Setup utility opens. 2 Select the Security menu. 3 Select Administrator Password. 4 Type the password and press ENTER, then type it again and press ENTER. 5 Save your changes and close the BIOS Setup utility. www.gateway.com 19

Server security
Using BIOS security passwords
