Version 7.0.0a NOTE: This software conforms to the Fibre Channel (FC) standards and accepted engineering practices and procedures. Description Fabric OS 7.0.0a introduces support for the following new 16 Gbps FC hardware platforms: • HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch • HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director Switch • HP SN8000B 16Gb 32-port Fibre Channel Blade for the HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch and the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director Switch • HP SN8000B 16Gb 48-port Fibre Channel Blade for the HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch and the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director Switch • New 16 Gbps Core Blades for the HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch and the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director Switch (field upgrade of existing director with these core blades is not currently supported) • Supports 2/4/8/10/16 Gbps FC for both open systems and FICON environments • Supports increased ICL bandwidth up to 2 Tbps (with optional licenses) on the HP SN8000B 8Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch and up to 1 Tbps on the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director Switch, and ICL distance up to 50m enabling flexible topologies • Supports up to eight slots for port blades and/or application blades on the HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch and up to four slots for port blade and/or application blades on the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director Switch In addition to the support for the new hardware, there are several new features introduced in Fabric OS 7.0.0a (summarized here, then explained in more detail in the section New features). • In-flight encryption and compression on 16 Gbps capable ISLs • Buffer credit loss detection and automatic recovery on 16 Gbps capable ISLs • 10 Gbps FC capability on 16 Gbps FC platforms • Advanced diagnostic support on 16 Gbps FC platforms, including D_Port support and Forward Error Correction (FEC) • FCIP enhancements: • 10 GigE lossless failover on the HP DC SAN Director Multiprotocol Extension Blade • Adaptive Rate Limiting on HP DC SAN Director Multiprotocol Extension Blade 10 GigE ports • Configurable QoS for FCIP tunnels on HP DC SAN Director Multiprotocol Extension Blade and HP 1606 SAN Extension Switch • Auto-mode option for compression on HP DC SAN Director Multiprotocol Extension Blade and HP 1606 SAN Extension Switch • XISL Support on HP DC SAN Director Multiprotocol Extension Blade (ability to use VE ports as XISLs) HP B-series Fabric OS 7.0.0a Release Notes 3

Description
Fabric OS 7.0.0a introduces support for the following new 16 Gbps FC hardware platforms:
