Chapter 1 Product Overview Services Modules The CSM shuts down if the software failure or an external power failure occurs, or if the module is separated from the backplane while it is still powered on. The CSM automatically backs up the data in memory to the disk drives and then shuts down. The CSM batteries provide adequate power to back up data without external power. Figure 1-21 shows the Cisco MDS 9000 Family CSM.
