Removal and Replacement Procedures 17 3. Disconnect the cabling and remove the server from the rack. Reverse the server installation steps in the documentation that ships with the rackmounting option. 4. Place the server on a sturdy, level surface. Removing the Access Panel WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal system components to cool before touching them. CAUTION: Do not operate the server for long periods without the access panel. Operating the server without the access panel results in improper airflow and improper cooling that can lead to thermal damage. 1. Power down the server if performing a non-hot-plug installation or maintenance procedure ("Powering Down the Server" on page 14). 2. Extend the server from the rack, if applicable ("Extending the Server from the Rack" on page 15). 3. Lift up on the hood latch handle and remove the access panel. Hot-Plug SCSI Hard Drive To remove the component: CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all bays are populated with either a component or a blank. 1. Determine the status of the hard drive from the hot-plug hard drive LEDs ("Hot-Plug SCSI Hard Drive LEDs" on page 83). 2. Back up all server data on the hard drive.
