Using the Proper Batteries 1. Position battery on ground/flat surface as shown below. 2. Visually inspect the battery to ensure proper polarity: 7 SETUP/MAINTENANCE ƽ WARNING FOR TDX SP AND TDX SR WHEELCHAIRS USE 22NF BATTERIES Batteries with terminal configuration (POSITIVE on the left and NEGATIVE on the right) as shown below MUST be used. Batteries that have the reverse terminal configuration MUST not be used - otherwise injury and damage may occur. Terminals MUST have a cross hole in them as shown below. . PROPER BATTERIES TO USE DO NOT USE THIS TYPE OF BATTERY Terminal Cross Hole NEGATIVE (-) Battery Terminal/ Post NEGATIVE (-) Battery Terminal/Post POSITIVE (+) Battery Terminal/Post POSITIVE (+) Battery Terminal/Post Battery Wiring Harness - TDX SP and TDX SR with Elevating Seat Only  For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 17 on page 105. If replacing the batteries or wiring harness, discard the existing item being replaced and perform STEPS 8-14 using the new batteries or wiring harness. 1. Remove the batteries from the wheelchair. Refer to Installing/Removing the Batteries - TDX SP and TDX SR with Elevating Seat on page 93. 2. Cut the tie-wraps that secure the battery terminal covers to the battery terminals. 3. The sources of radiated EMI can be broadly classified into three types:	22
1. Hand-held Portable transceivers (transmitters-receivers with the antenna mounted directly on the transmitting unit. Examples include: citizens band (CB) radios, “walkie talkie”, security, fire and police transceivers, cellular telephones, and ...	22

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) from sources such as radio and TV stations, amateur radio (HAM) transmitters, two-way radios, and cellular phones can affect powered wheelchairs and motorized scooters.	23
Following the warnings listed below should reduce the chance of unintended brake release or powered wheelchair movement which could result in serious injury.	23

1) DO NOT operate hand-held transceivers (transmitters receivers), such as citizens band (CB) radios, or turn ON personal communication devices, such as cellular phones, while the powered wheelchair is turned ON;	23
2) Be aware of nearby transmitters, such as radio or TV stations, and try to avoid coming close to them;	23
3) If unintended movement or brake release occurs, turn the powered wheelchair OFF as soon as it is safe;	23
4) Be aware that adding accessories or components, or modifying the powered wheelchair, may make it more susceptible to EMI (Note: There is no easy way to evaluate their effect on the overall immunity of the powered wheelchair); and	23
5) Report all incidents of unintended movement or brake release to the powered wheelchair manufacturer, and note whether there is a source of EMI nearby.	23
