Chapter 2 Using Zoom for Still Pictures Your camera offers optical and digital zoom features. Use optical zoom to get up to two times closer (2X) to your subject. Then, to get even closer, use digital zoom for an additional 3X. In optical zoom, the camera lens moves as you push the zoom button. Digital zoom is accomplished with camera image processing; the lens does not move. When you turn on the camera, the lens moves to the Wide Angle position. Preview is required for digital zoom. NOTE: The zoom features are available for still pictures, but not for video recording. Using Zoom W T 1 Zoom button 2 Set the Mode dial to Still . Activate optical zoom. Push the zoom button towards Telephoto (T) to get closer to your subject. Push the zoom button towards Wide Angle (W) to get farther away. The change is displayed in the viewfinder, or on the LCD if Preview is on. 3 Take the picture. 4 To get even closer, activate digital zoom. Press the zoom button to its farthest T position, the limit of optical zoom. Release the button, then press it again towards T. The LCD displays the zoomed image and the magnification level as it changes. 5 Take the picture. NOTE: You may notice a decrease in printed image quality when using digital zoom. Digital zoom is automatically turned off when the camera state changes (turn off Preview, move the Mode dial, turn off the camera, or when the camera enters Sleep mode). 20

Using Zoom for Still Pictures
Your camera offers optical and digital zoom features. Use optical zoom to get
up to two times closer (2X) to your subject. Then, to get even closer, use digital
zoom for an additional 3X.
In optical zoom, the camera lens moves as you push the zoom button. Digital
zoom is accomplished with camera image processing; the lens does not move.
When you turn on the camera, the lens moves to the Wide Angle position.

Using Zoom

Set the Mode dial to Still

Activate optical zoom
. Push the zoom
button towards Telephoto (T) to get closer
to your subject. Push the zoom button
towards Wide Angle (W) to get farther away.
The change is displayed in the viewfinder,
or on the LCD if Preview is on.

Take the picture.

To get even closer,
activate digital zoom
. Press the zoom button to its
farthest T position, the limit of optical zoom. Release the button, then press
it again towards T.
The LCD displays the zoomed image and the magnification level as it
changes.

Take the picture.
NOTE: You may notice a decrease in printed image quality when using digital
