LaCie 5big Backup Server Configuration Guide Troubleshooting page 61 Problem The system is not recognized by the computer. The system does not appear on the network. A user does not have access to the LaCie 5big Backup Server. Question Does your computer's configuration meet the minimum system requirements? Is the system's power supply connected and is the blue light on the front of the drive on? Is the blue light on the front of the device flickering? Did you follow the correct installation steps? Are both ends of the Ethernet cable firmly connected? Is your network DHCP enabled? Has the administrator created an account for the user? Solution Check section 1.3. Minimum Workstation Operating System Requirements for more information. Make sure: ✦✦ That the power supply is properly connected (see section 2.1. Turning On the 5big Backup Server for details). ✦✦ That the system has been powered on by pushing the LED button on the front of the device. ✦✦ That the electrical outlet hosting the 5big Backup Server power supply has a sufficient supply of power. If the blue LED on the face of the 5big Backup Server is flickering or will not turn on, the power supply may be defective. Please contact your LaCie reseller or LaCie Customer Support. 5big Backup Server - Review the installation steps (2.2. Connecting the Ethernet Cable). Workstation - Connect your workstation the network (using either a wired or a wireless connection), and make sure the workstation is on the same logical network as 5big Backup Server. ✦✦ Disconnect the Ethernet cable on both ends, wait 10 seconds and then reconnect. ✦✦ Ensure that the interface connectors are properly aligned and the Ethernet cable correctly oriented. ✦✦ Check that the Ethernet connectors are straight and fully seated in the Ethernet ports. ✦✦ Make sure that you use the Ethernet cord provided in the 5big Backup Server box. The 5big Backup Server is compatible with a network that includes a DHCP server. In order for a user to access the LaCie 5big Backup Server, two conditions must be met: 1) the administrator must create and register the user with the appropriate privileges; 2) the LaCie 5big Backup Server must be connected to the same network via Ethernet. continued on the next page>>

Make sure:
That the power supply is properly connected (see section
2.1. Turning
On the 5big Backup Server
for details).
That the system has been powered on by pushing the LED button on
the front of the device.
That the electrical outlet hosting the 5big Backup Server power sup-
ply has a sufficient supply of power.
Is the blue light on the front of the
device flickering?
If the blue LED on the face of the 5big Backup Server is flickering or will
not turn on, the power supply may be defective. Please contact your LaCie
reseller or LaCie Customer Support.
