H = Selecting the Flash Mode Flash Modes 4 (No icon) Auto The flash discharges automatically depending on the light conditions. a Flash Off The flash will not discharge, regardless of the brightness. Use this mode to take pictures at dusk or in museums etc. where flash photography is prohibited. b Flash On The flash discharges regardless of the brightness. c Auto + Red-eye reduction This mode reduces the phenomenon of red eyes caused by the light from the flash being reflected in the subject's eyes. The flash discharges automatically. d Flash On + Red-eye reduction This mode reduces the phenomenon of red eyes caused by the light from the flash being reflected in the subject's eyes. The flash will discharge regardless of lighting conditions. • The flash is off when the Capture mode is set to C or X, the Drive mode is set to Continuous Shooting or the Focus mode is set to H. • The flash discharges twice, first a pre-flash and then a second time to take the picture. (In the red-eye reduction modes, the interval between the pre-flash and the main flash is longer.) 1 Press the four-way controller (4) in Capture mode.
