Connect your Toshiba Digital Media Server (DMS) using the Start Here poster and Chapter 1 of this guide. 2. Complete Guided Setup following the steps provided in Chapter 2 of this guide. When you've finished these two steps, you're ready to use the TiVo BasicTM service. Take the tours in Chapter 3 of this guide for an easy overview of the features. Basic terms. These are terms used in this guide when we talk about the rest of the service: DMS. The Toshiba Digital Media Server with TiVo® service combines a TiVo® Digital Video Recorder (DVR) with a DVD recorder. This guide uses "DMS" to refer to it. Live TV. If you're watching a program as it's being broadcast, you're watching live TV. With the TiVo service, you can also watch recorded programs, or watch "behind" live TV (if you pause live TV, then come back later and watch from the paused spot). Icons. These are graphic symbols used in the TiVo service to provide information and options you can select. You'll find the Glossary of Icons on the inside back cover. Program Information screen. When you select a program title from a list, you'll see this type of screen. From it, select actions and view the program description. Service Terms. This guide refers to both the TiVo Basic and the TiVo Plus service. For purposes of convenience only, the term "TiVo service" is sometimes used to refer to information that applies to both TiVo Basic and TiVo Plus. vi

Getting Started

Basic terms.
These are terms used in this guide when we talk about the rest of the service:
DMS.
The Toshiba Digital Media Server with TiVo
®
service combines a TiVo
®
Digital
Video Recorder (DVR) with a DVD recorder. This guide uses “DMS” to refer to it.
Live TV.
If you’re watching a program as it’s being broadcast, you’re watching live TV.
With the TiVo service, you can also watch recorded programs, or watch “behind” live
