MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT 109 WARNING If dirt or dust is allowed to pass through into the fuel injection system, the throttle may stick or become inoperable resulting in a hazardous operating condition. Throttle Control System Check the throttle grip play each day before riding the motorcycle, and in accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart, and adjust the throttle grip play. Throttle Grip The throttle grip controls the butterfly valves in the throttle body. If the throttle grip has excessive play due to either cable stretch or maladjustment, it will cause a delay in throttle response, especially at low engine speed. Also, the throttle valve may not open fully at full throttle. On the other hand, if the throttle grip has no play, the throttle will be hard to control, and idle speed will be erratic. Inspection Check that there is 2 a 3 mm (0.08 a 0.12 in.) throttle grip play when NOTICE If dirt gets through into the engine, excessive engine wear and possibly engine damage will occur. żElement installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
