;TART Raising the Lifigate (CONI) New Vehicle "Break-In" I A It can be dangerous to drive with the liftgate open. Carbon monoxide (CO) gas cai come into your vehicle. You can't see or smell CO. It can cause unconsciousness and even death. If you must drive with the liftgate open: Make sure all windows are shut. 0 Turn the fan on your heatingor cooling system to its highest speed withthe setting on BILEV (Bi-Level) or UPPER. That wiIl force outside air into your vehicle. See the I d a under I Your modern Pontiac doesn't need an elaborate "break-in."But it will perform betterin the longrun if you follow these guidelines: Don't drive at any one speedfast or slow-for the first 500 miles (804 km). Don't make fullthrottle starts. Avoid making hard stops for the first 200 miles (322 km) or so. During this time your new brake linings aren't yet broken in. Hard stops with new linings can mean premature wearand earlier replacement. Follow this "breaking-in" guideline every time you get new brakelinings. 4gnition Switch FVith the ignition keyin the ignition switch, You can turn the switch to five positions: ALccessory: An "on" position in which You can operate your electrical power accessories.
