Lap Hemmer Tailored effect obtained by having both rows of stitching on the R.S. Can be used to make Run and Fell seam; useful for nightwear, underwear and children's garments. Lap hems are used to produce very firm seams. They are obtained in two operations, viz. : 1st Operation (Fig. 20a): Arrange the fabric sections to be joined on top of each other in such a manner that the bottom section slightly projects from the top one and pass with sections touching both under the lap hemmer as when hemming so that they are folded over. Make sure that the same width of material always enters the lap hemmer. 2nd Operation (Fig. 20 b): The two sections are now unfolded and laid flat so that the seam formed stands up like a pleat. This pleat is again passed into the lap hemmer in the same direction so that it is folded over and sewn down. a Fig. 20 b 39
