GETTING READY Pulling up the bobbin thread When making gathers or before free-motion quilting, first pull up the bobbin thread as described below. Insert the bobbin into the bobbin case. a • Refer to steps a through e of "Installing the bobbin" (page 26). Pass the bobbin thread through the slot. b Do not cut the thread with the cutter. Turn on the sewing machine. c While lightly holding the upper thread with d your left hand with the needle in the up- position, press (needle position button) twice to lower and raise the needle. Pull out about 10 cm (4 inches) of the bobbin f thread under the presser foot toward the rear of the machine. Turn off the sewing machine. g Reattach the bobbin cover. h Insert the tab in the lower-left corner of the bobbin cover (A), and then lightly press down on the right side (B). B A 1 a Needle position button X The bobbin thread is looped around the upper thread and can be pulled up. Carefully pull the upper thread upward to pull e out the end of the bobbin thread. 36
