OPERATION 3. To stop or slow down the tractor, take your foot off of the forward (a) or reverse drive (b) pedal. To lock the parking brake, place drive control pedals in neutral and pull the park brake lever (c) back. See Figure 18 on page 17. 3. Press the REVERSE PUSH BUTTON (c) at the top, right corner of the ignition module. The red indicator light (d) at the top, left corner of the ignition module will be ON while activated. See Figure 19. 4. To travel in reverse, check that the area behind is clear then slowly push down on the reverse drive pedal (b) with the ball of your foot (NOT your heel) until the desired speed is achieved. See Figure 18 on page 17. CAUTION Do NOT attempt to change the direction of travel when the tractor is in motion. Always bring the tractor to a complete stop before moving the tractor from forward to reverse or vice versa. WARNING 4. Once activated (indicator light ON), the tractor can be driven in reverse with the cutting blades (PTO) engaged. 5. Always look down and behind before and while backing to make sure no children are around. After resuming forward motion, return key to the NORMAL MOWING (a) position. See Figure 19. 6. The REVERSE CAUTION MODE (b) until (see Figure 19): will remain activated a. The key is placed in either the NORMAL MOWING (a) position or STOP (e) position, or b. The operator leaves the seat. Do not leave the seat of the tractor without first placing the PTO knob in the disengaged (OFF) position and engaging the parking brake. If leaving the tractor unattended, also turn the engine off and remove the key. REVERSE CAUTION MODE The REVERSE CAUTION MODE position of the ignition module allows the tractor to be operated in reverse with the blades (PTO) engaged. NOTE: Mowing in reverse is not recommended. WARNING Use extreme caution while operating the tractor in the REVERSE CAUTION MODE . Always look down and behind before and while backing. Do not operate the tractor when children or others are around. Stop the tractor immediately if someone enters the area. To use the REVERSE CAUTION MODE : NOTE: The operator MUST be seated in the tractor seat. 1. Start the engine as previously instructed. 2. Turn the key from the NORMAL MOWING (a) position to the REVERSE CAUTION MODE (b) position of the ignition module. See Figure 19. OPERATING THE PTO Operate the PTO clutch as follows: NOTE: During your tractor's initial break-in period, in order to engage the PTO and avoid engine stall, allow the engine to warm before engaging the PTO. Break-in period varies depending on your engine. 1. Move the throttle control lever to the FAST position. 2. Pull the PTO switch upward to the ENGAGED position. 3. The operator must remain in the tractor seat at all times. If the operator should leave the seat without disengaging the PTO, the tractor's engine will shut off. 4. The PTO clutch will not operate when the tractor is driving in the reverse direction without the use of the REVERSE CAUTION MODE. See REVERSE CAUTION MODE section. Mowing WARNING To help avoid blade contact or a thrown object injury, keep bystanders, helpers, children, and pets at least 75' (23 meters) from the machine while it is in operation. Stop machine if anyone enters the area. WARNING (d) (c) Make certain the area to be mowed is free of debris, sticks, stones, wire, or other objects that can be thrown by the rotating blades. Also, avoid discharging material against a wall or obstruction which may cause discharged material to ricochet back toward the operator. 18

brake, place drive control pedals in neutral and pull the park
brake lever (c) back. See Figure 18 on page 17.

CAUTION
Do NOT attempt to change the direction of travel when
the tractor is in motion. Always bring the tractor to a
complete stop before moving the tractor from forward to
reverse or vice versa.
WARNING
Do not leave the seat of the tractor without first placing
the PTO knob in the disengaged (OFF) position and
engaging the parking brake. If leaving the tractor
unattended, also turn the engine off and remove the key.
REVERSE CAUTION MODE
The REVERSE CAUTION MODE
position of the ignition
module allows the tractor to be operated in reverse with the
blades (PTO) engaged.
NOTE:
Mowing in reverse is not recommended.
WARNING
Use extreme caution while operating the tractor in the
REVERSE CAUTION MODE
. Always look down and
behind before and while backing. Do not operate the
tractor when children or others are around. Stop the
tractor immediately if someone enters the area.
To use the REVERSE CAUTION MODE
:
NOTE:
The operator MUST be seated in the tractor seat.
1.
Start the engine as previously instructed.
2.

Once activated (indicator light ON), the tractor can be driven
in reverse with the cutting blades (PTO) engaged.
5.
Always look down and behind before and while backing to
make sure no children are around. After resuming forward
motion, return key to the NORMAL MOWING

position. See Figure 19.
6.
The REVERSE CAUTION MODE (b)
will remain activated
until (see Figure 19):
a.
The key is placed in either the NORMAL MOWING
(a)
position or STOP
(e) position, or
b.
The operator leaves the seat.
