Connecting the Printer to Your Computer If the self test printed correctly, you are now ready to connect the printer to your computer. Your printer has two separate interface connections: a Centronics®-compatible parallel interface and an RS-232C compatible serial interface. If you are not sure which one is required by your computer, check your computer manual. parallel interface If you have a suitable shielded cable, you should be able to connect the printer immediately. If you have one of the few computers that requires a different type of interface, you should be able to use one of the optional interfaces described in Chapter 6. The parallel interface is the printer's default setting. If you need to use the built-in serial interface, be sure to change the DIP switch settings as shown in Chapter 3.
