2 Theory of operation This chapter explains the theory of operation. Unit location and function The charge roller (CR) electrically charges the surface of the PIP. It is located above the PIP drum. Figure 2-1 Charge roller location The charge roller has a life-span of 1 millioncharge cycles before its electrical properties wear out. (Charge cycles include printing, cold starts, nulls cycles and cycles in pause mode.) Unit components The charge roller consists of two rollers: ● Charge roller - This roller is made from conductive rubber. It is pressed against the surface of the PIP by gravity. The roller is driven by the PIP drum rotation. ● Balancing roller - This roller is made from metal. It balances the electrical current on the charge roller to prevent deterioration of roller properties. This roller is driven by the charge roller. 2 Chapter 2 Theory of operation

This chapter explains the theory of operation.
Unit location and function
The charge roller (CR) electrically charges the surface of the PIP. It is located above the PIP drum.
Figure 2-1

charge cycles
before its electrical properties wear out. (Charge
cycles include printing, cold starts, nulls cycles and cycles in pause mode.)
Unit components
The charge roller consists of two rollers:
Charge roller
– This roller is made from conductive rubber. It is pressed against the surface of the PIP by
gravity. The roller is driven by the PIP drum rotation.
Balancing roller
– This roller is made from metal. It balances the electrical current on the charge roller to
prevent deterioration of roller properties. This roller is driven by the charge roller.
