4 HP BIOS Power Saving and Ergonometry Power Saving and Ergonometry Power-On from Space-Bar The power-on from the space-bar function is enabled, provided that: • The computer is connected to a Power-On keyboard (recognizable by the Power-On icon on the space bar). • The computer is running a Windows operating system. • The function has not been disabled by setting SW-8 to UP on the system board switches. • The function has not been disabled in the "Power" menu of the Setup pro- gram. Power Button Override Under certain circumstances, in order to prevent accidental data or information loss, the PC Workstation cannot be turned off (i.e. after pressing the power button, the power indication light is red and the fans are still running): • If the PC Workstation is locked, "power-off" is not allowed. First, the password to unlock the PC Workstation must be entered in order to turn it off. • If the PC Workstation is in suspend/sleep mode, "power-off" is disabled to prevent a loss of information/data. To override this "power button disable" feature, press the Power On/Off button for five seconds, and the system will be automatically turned off. Note that this does not shut down the operating system properly and may result in loss of information or data. Package Intrusion Feature Each time the cover is removed from the PC Workstation, a detector placed near the Power On/Off button will report the fact to the HP TopTOOLS utility. 53
