1 Product Overview and Features Product Features Overview New Features System Board Product Features The HP Vectra VE 5/xx series 2 is a PENTIUM (P54) processor, ISA/PCI-based PC. The system consists of a system board and a backplane. Ì The desktop's backplane has one PCI slot, one combination ISA/PCI slot, one ISA slot and one HP proprietary ISA slot for accessory boards. • A completely upgradable Pentium-based system board (using system board switches and voltage regulator module). • A new keyboard supporting Windows 95 special key functions. • Vectra Ergonomic Power Solution (VEPS): space bar power-on (under any operating system), push-button status panel, and software shutdown from Windows 95. • HP's new style BIOS. The main features of the system board are: Ì A system board that can mount PENTIUM processors (with accompanying Voltage Regulation Module) at several different clock speeds (75 MHz, 100 MHz and 133 MHz). Ì A new type of main memory module called EDO (Extended Data Output) for faster memory access times (60 ns). Ì Optional 256KB of synchronous pipeline burst level 2 cache. Ì A 64-bit host bus for PENTIUM processor, cache and main memory. Ì A 32-bit Peripheral Component Interconnection (PCI) local bus for accessing the video controller and IDE controller. Ì An Industry-Standard Architecture (ISA) bus for ISA-compatible controllers (for devices such as flexible disk drives, serial ports, parallel port, and audio card in multimedia models). Ì A dual password (administrator and user) security system that provides protection against unauthorized use of the PC. Ì A flash BIOS updating facility. 6
