8.0 General 8.1 Introduction This specification describes the host interface of HDS724040KLAT80 / HDS724040KLSA80. This is the main inter- face specification which includes the common host interface to both Parallel ATA and Serial ATA (SATA). The interface unique to ProductNameSATA Serial ATA model is described in the "Addendum for Serial ATA" of this specification. The interface conforms to the Working Document of Information technology - AT Attachment with Packet Interface Extension (ATA major revision ATA generation) Revision 4 dated on 23 December 2003 with certain limitations described in 2.0, "Deviations From Standard." 8.2 Terminology Device Host HDS724040KLAT80 / HDS724040KLSA80 hard disk drive Host indicates the system that the device is attached to. 8.3 Deviations from standard The device conforms to the referenced specifications with the following deviations: Check Power Mode - Check Power Mode command returns FFh to Sector Count Register when the device is in Idle mode. This command does not support 80h as the return value. Hard Reset - Hard reset response is not the same as that of power on reset. Refer to section 10.1, "Reset response" on page 75 for details.
