8. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new microprocessor to any unpainted metal surface on the outside of the server; then, remove the microprocessor from the package. Attention: To avoid bending the pins on the microprocessor, do not use excessive force when pressing it into the socket 9. Position the microprocessor over the microprocessor socket and carefully press the microprocessor into the socket. Open the heat-sink retaining clip: a. Press down on the center of the heat-sink retaining clip. This will cause the clip to flex and release it from the tabs on the heat-sink socket. b. Lift the heat-sink retaining clip to the fully open position (approximately 135° angle). 12. Remove the heat sink from its package and remove the cover from the bottom of the heat sink. 13. Remove the release liner and orient the heat sink above the microprocessor; then, press the heat sink into place and close the heat-sink release lever. 14. If you have other microprocessors to install, do so now by repeating steps 5 through 13. 15. Install the air baffle in the microprocessor tray. 16. Reinstall the microprocessor tray in the server: a. Make sure that the microprocessor-tray release latch is open; then, push the microprocessor tray into the server. b. Close the tray levers and make sure that they are securely latched. c. Press the microprocessor-tray release latch down. d. Reinstall the fans and memory cards in the server. If you have other options to install or remove, do so now; otherwise, go to "Completing the installation." the

the

press

Close
the
microprocessor-release
lever
to
secure
the
microprocessor.
11.
Open
the
heat-sink
retaining
clip:
a.
Press
down
on
the
center
of
the
heat-sink
retaining
clip.
This
will
cause
the
clip
to
flex
and
release
it
from
the
tabs
on
the
heat-sink
socket.
b.
Lift
the
heat-sink
retaining
clip
to
the
fully
open
position
(approximately
135°
angle).
12.
Remove
the
heat
sink
from
its
package
and
remove
the
cover
from
the
bottom
of
the
heat
sink.
13.
Remove
the
release
liner
and
orient
the
heat
sink
above
the
microprocessor;
then,
press
the
heat
sink
into
place
and
close
the
heat-sink
release
lever.
14.
If
you
have
other
microprocessors
to
install,
do
so
now
by
repeating
steps
5
through
13.
15.
Install
the
air
baffle
in
the
microprocessor
tray.
16.
Reinstall
the
microprocessor
tray
in
the
server:
a.
Make
sure
that
the
microprocessor-tray
release
latch
is
open;
then,
push
the
microprocessor
tray
into
the
server.
b.
Close
the
tray
levers
and
make
sure
that
they
are
securely
latched.
c.
Press
the
microprocessor-tray
release
latch
down.
d.
Reinstall
the
fans
and
memory
cards
in
the
server.
If
you
have
other

to
install
or
remove,
do
so
now;
otherwise,
go
to
“Completing

installation.”
