Chapter 1. Introduction The IBM® BladeCenter™ HS20 Type 8832 blade server is based on the ERserver IBM Enterprise X-Architecture™ technologies1. Your BladeCenter HS20 blade server can be installed in an IBM Eserver BladeCenter Type 8677 unit or IBM BladeCenter T Types 8720 and 8730 Eserver units. Note: Unless otherwise stated, references to the BladeCenter unit also apply to the BladeCenter T unit. These high-performance blade servers are ideally suited for networking environments that require superior microprocessor performance, efficient memory management, flexibility, and reliable data storage. This Installation and User's Guide provides information to: v Set up the blade server v Start and configure the blade server v Install options v Install the operating system v Perform basic troubleshooting of the blade server Packaged with the Installation and User's Guide are software CDs that help you to configure hardware, install device drivers, and install the operating system. To download the latest device drivers, go to the IBM Support Web site at http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/. The blade server comes with a limited warranty. For information about your warranty, see, Appendix B, "IBM Statement of Limited Warranty Z125-4753-07 11/2002," on page 71. You can obtain up-to-date information about your BladeCenter HS20 Type 8832 model and IBM xSeries® server products at http://www.ibm.com/eserver/xseries/. You can register the blade server at http://www.ibm.com/pc/register/. Record information about your BladeCenter HS20 blade server in the following table. Note: The model number and serial number are on the ID label that is behind the control panel door on the front of the blade server, and on a label on the right side of the blade server that is visible when the blade server is not in the BladeCenter unit. You will need these numbers when you register your blade server with IBM. 1.
