Installing a memory module The following illustration shows how to install a dual inline memory module (DIMM) on a microprocessor/memory card. The following notes describe information that you must consider when you install DIMMs: v You can configure your server to use online-spare memory, Chipkill memory, and memory scrubbing. For detailed information about configuring your server and using these features, see the User's Guide on the IBM System x Documentation CD. v The server supports up to four microprocessor/memory cards. Each microprocessor/memory card holds up to eight DIMMs. v When you install additional DIMMs on a microprocessor/memory card, be sure to install them in pairs. Each pair of DIMMs must be the same speed, type, and size. However, each microprocessor/memory card can have different speed, type, and size DIMMs. v See Table 2 for the order in which to install DIMMs on each microprocessor/memory card. Table 2. Installing a memory module
The following illustration shows how to install a dual inline memory module (DIMM)
on a microprocessor/memory card.
The following notes describe information that you must consider when you install
DIMMs:
v
You can configure your server to use online-spare memory, Chipkill memory, and
memory scrubbing. For detailed information about configuring your server and
using these features, see the
User’s Guide
on the IBM
System x Documentation
CD.
v
The server supports up to four microprocessor/memory cards. Each
microprocessor/memory card holds up to eight DIMMs.
v
When you install additional DIMMs on a microprocessor/memory card, be sure to
install them in pairs. Each pair of DIMMs must be the same speed, type, and
size. However, each microprocessor/memory card can have different speed, type,
and size DIMMs.
v
See Table 2 for the order in which to install DIMMs on each
microprocessor/memory card.
