Front Panel Features and Peripheral Devices The server system provides locations and hardware for installing hard drives, a USB floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, or DVD-ROM drive. Hard Disk Drive Bays (Optional HDD Carriers shown) Figure 13. Front Panel Features and Peripherals Hard Disk Drives The server system supports 2.5 inch SAS or Serial ATA (SATA) hot-swap drives. With the mini control panel, the system can support up to eight 2.5 inch hard drives. With the standard control panel or the Intel® Local Control Panel, the system can support up to six 2.5 inch hard drives. For instructions on installing hard drives, see "Installing and Removing a Hot-swap Hard Drive". Note: Drives can consume up to 17 watts of power each. Drives must be specified to run at a maximum ambient temperature of 45C. Note: The Intel® Server System SR1550AL does not support all SAS or Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives. See "Server System References" for an Internet link to a list of supported hardware. Slimline Optical Drive Carrier The slimline optical drive carrier can be used with an optional optical drive. One slimline carrier is included with your server system; the optical drive must be purchased separately. You cannot install both an optical drive and a USB floppy drive.
