Note: Your touch screen goes dark when your phone is inactive, to conserve battery life. To reactivate the screen, press B. Your phone shows system status indicators across the top of the display (to see a glossary of icons, touch Menu , then touch Settings , touch Phone, and touch Icon Glossary): alert/indicator 0 EV 1X Signal Strength Indicates when the phone is in an EVDO coverage area (necessary for V CAST services). 1X indicates when the phone is in a 1x-RTT coverage area. The number of bars shows the strength of each signal, from 1 (weak) to 4 (strong). alert/indicator 2 Roaming Indicates when the phone is roaming off your home network. If you make a call while roaming, additional charges may apply. 5 SSL Indicates that application verification is via SSL during a download session. L Data Call, Tethered, or Embedded WAP/BREW Application Shows during data calls, tethered mode, or WAP/BREW application. M Dormant Indicates that the phone is dormant and the Internet connection is active. 16 basics
