Techno Tidbits and Problem-solving Symptom Cause Other audio problems Subwoofer output is very low. • Settings route signal away from subwoofer. Remedy • To get more signal to the subwoofer set it to PLUS or choose SMALL for the front speakers (see page 39). During multi channel playback, there is no sound output from one speaker. • That speaker is set to NO. • Set the speaker to YES. A multi channel DVD source appears to be downmixed from 2 channels during playback. • The source is coming from something other than the MULTI CH IN jacks (for example, digital PCM output, etc.) • Check the MULTI CH IN connection (see page 21) and select the type of playback with the MULTI CH IN button (see page 53). Considerable noise in radio broadcasts. • Incorrect frequency. • The antenna is not connected. • Digital cables are near the antenna ter- minals and wires. • Tune in the correct frequency. • Connect the antenna (see page 24). • Route digital cables away from the antenna terminals and wires. Broadcast stations cannot be selected automatically. • The antenna is poorly positioned. • Interference caused by other equipment (fluorescent lamp, motor, etc.). • Weak radio signals. • Adjust the direction and position for best reception. • Turn off the equipment causing the noise or move it away from the receiver. • Place the antenna farther away from the equipment causing the noise. • Connect an outdoor AM or FM antenna (see page 24). Noise or hum can be heard • There is electrical interference from even when there is no sound another component or appliance. being input. • Check that personal computers or other digital components connected to the same power source are not causing interference. When a search is performed by a DTS compatible CD player during playback, noise is output. • The search function performed by the player interferes with the reading of digital information. • This is not a malfunction, but be sure to turn the volume down to prevent the output of loud noise from your speakers. When playing a DTS format LD • The SIGNAL SELECT is on ANALOG. there is noise audible on the soundtrack. • Set the SIGNAL SELECT to DIGITAL (see page 44). Audio doesn't record (in some cases, even if video does). • You are trying to make an analog recording from a digital signal, or a digital recording of an analog source. • The digital source is copy protected. • The jacks for recording have not been connected properly. • You can only record analog to analog, or digital to digital. Make sure the playback and recording components are hooked up with the same kind of connections. • You can't record digital sources that have been copy protected. • Check connections (see pages 20 and 22).
