Troubleshooting Troubleshooting the Rider PROBLEM LOOK FOR Ground speed levers not in START/PARK positions. REMEDY Lock ground speed levers in START/ PARK positions. PTO (electric clutch) switch Place in OFF position. in ON position. Out of fuel. Parking brake disengaged. Fuel valve closed (if equipped). Engine flooded. If engine is hot, allow it to cool, then refill the fuel tank. Engage parking brake. Open fuel valve. Open the choke. Gas is old or stale. Drain fuel and replace with fresh fuel. Engine will not turnover or start. Battery terminals require cleaning. Clean the battery terminals. Battery discharged or dead. Recharge or replace. Wiring loose or broken. See authorized service dealer. Solenoid or starter motor faulty. r n Safety interlock switch not working. fo tio Spark plug(s) faulty, fouled or incorrectly gapped. t Water in fuel. c Circuit breaker blown. o u Fuel mixture too rich. N d Engine starts hard or runs Spark plug faulty, fouled, or poorly. incorrectly gapped. o Fuel filter dirty. pr Engine knocks. Low oil level. Using wrong grade oil. e Excessive oil R consumption. Engine running too hot. Using wrong grade oil. See authorized service dealer. See authorized service dealer. Clean and gap or replace. (See engine manual.) Drain fuel and refill with fresh fuel. See authorized service dealer. Clean air filter. Check the choke. Clean and gap or replace. (See engine manual.) Replace fuel filter. Check/add oil as required. See engine manual. See engine fins, blower screen, and air cleaner. See engine manual. Too much oil in crankcase. Drain excess oil. Dirty air filter. Replace air filter. (See engine manual.) Engine exhaust is black. Engine choke control is in closed position. Open choke control. Engine runs, but rider will Transmission(s) disengaged. Unlock roll release rod(s). not drive. Belt is broken.
