Check the oil level (see Check and Add Engine Oil). 2. Sit in the seat and lift UP the seat adjustment lever, position as desired, and release the lever to lock the seat in position. 3. Engage the parking brake. Fully depress the brake pedal, pull UP on the parking brake control, and release the brake pedal. 4. Disengage PTO switch by pushing IN. 5. Set the throttle/choke control to the CHOKE position. 6. Insert the ignition key and turn clockwise to the START position and release the key as soon as the engine starts. Figure 6 7. When Starting Engine • E nsure that spark plug, muffler, fuel cap, and air cleaner (if equipped) are in place and secured. • Do not crank engine with spark plug removed. • If engine floods, set choke (if equipped) to OPEN/RUN position, move throttle (if equipped) to FAST position and crank until engine starts. 16

Adding Fuel
1.
Clean the fuel cap area of dirt and debris. Remove the
fuel cap (

, Figure 6). Also see
Features and Controls
section.
2.
Fill the fuel tank (

) with fuel. To allow for expansion of
the fuel, do not fill above the bottom of the fuel tank neck
(

When Adding Fuel
Turn engine off and let engine cool at least 3 minutes
before removing the fuel cap.
• Fill fuel tank outdoors or in well-ventilated area.
Do not overfill fuel tank. To allow for expansion of the
fuel, do not fill above the bottom of the fuel tank neck.
Keep fuel away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights,
heat, and other ignition sources.
Check fuel lines, tank, cap, and fittings frequently for
cracks or leaks. Replace if necessary.
If fuel spills, wait until it evaporates before starting
engine.

1. Check the oil level (see

2.
Sit in the seat and lift UP the seat adjustment lever,
position as desired, and release the lever to lock the seat
in position.
3.
Engage the parking brake. Fully depress the brake
pedal, pull UP on the parking brake control, and release
the brake pedal.
4. Disengage PTO switch by pushing IN.
5.
Set the throttle/choke control to the CHOKE position.
6.
Insert the ignition key and turn clockwise to the START
position and release the key as soon as the engine
starts.
7.
After the engine starts, move the throttle/choke control to
half speed. Warm up the engine by running it for at least
30 seconds.
8. Set throttle/choke control to the FAST position.
NOTE:
In the event of an emergency, the engine can be
stopped by turning the ignition switch to STOP. For normal
shut down, see
Stopping the Tractor and Engine
section.

Ensure that spark plug, muffler, fuel cap, and air
cleaner (if equipped) are in place and secured.
• Do not crank engine with spark plug removed.
If engine floods, set choke (if equipped) to OPEN/RUN
position, move throttle (if equipped) to FAST position
and crank until engine starts.
