CHAPTER 5 Standalone Configuration 5.1 Overview The Zyxel Device is in standalone mode by default. Use the web configurator to manage and configure the Zyxel Device directly. As shown in the following figure, wireless clients can connect to the Zyxel Device (A) to access network resources. 5.2 Starting and Stopping the Zyxel Device Here are some of the ways to start and stop the Zyxel Device. Always use Maintenance > Shutdown or the shutdown command before you turn off the Zyxel Device or remove the power. Not doing so can cause the firmware to become corrupt. Table 25 Starting and Stopping the Zyxel Device METHOD DESCRIPTION Turning on the power A cold start occurs when you turn on the power to the Zyxel Device. The Zyxel Device powers up, checks the hardware, and starts the system processes. Rebooting the Zyxel Device A warm start (without powering down and powering up again) occurs when you use the Reboot button in the Reboot screen or when you use the reboot command. The Zyxel Device writes all cached data to the local storage, stops the system processes, and then does a warm start. NWA/WAC/WAX Series User's Guide 65
