Chapter 10 VLAN The following table describes the labels in this screen. Table 54 Advanced Application > VLAN > VLAN Port Setting > Protocol Based VLAN Setup LABEL Active Port DESCRIPTION Check this box to activate this protocol based VLAN. Type a port to be included in this protocol based VLAN. Name Ethernet-type This port must belong to a static VLAN in order to participate in a protocol based VLAN. See Chapter 10 on page 129 for more details on setting up VLANs. Enter up to 32 alpha numeric characters to identify this protocol based VLAN. Use the drop down list box to select a predefined protocol to be included in this protocol based VLAN or select Others and type the protocol number in hexadecimal notation. For example the IP protocol in hexadecimal notation is 0800, and Novell IPX protocol is 8137. VID Priority Add Cancel Index Active Port Name Ethernet Type VID Priority Delete Cancel Note: Protocols in the hexadecimal number range of 0x0000 to 0x05ff are not allowed to be used for protocol based VLANs. Enter the ID of a VLAN to which the port belongs. This must be an existing VLAN which you defined in the Advanced Application > VLAN screens. Select the priority level that the Switch will assign to frames belonging to this VLAN. Click Add to save your changes to the Switch's run-time memory. The Switch loses these changes if it is turned off or loses power, so use the Save link on the top navigation panel to save your changes to the non-volatile memory when you are done configuring. Click Cancel to change the fields back to their last saved values. This is the index number identifying this protocol based VLAN. Click on any of these numbers to edit an existing protocol based VLAN. This field shows whether the protocol based VLAN is active or not. This field shows which port belongs to this protocol based VLAN. This field shows the name the protocol based VLAN. This field shows which Ethernet protocol is part of this protocol based VLAN. This field shows the VLAN ID of the port. This field shows the priority which is assigned to frames belonging to this protocol based VLAN. Click this to delete the protocol based VLANs which you marked for deletion. Click Cancel to begin configuring this screen afresh. 10.10 Create an IP-based VLAN Example This example shows you how to create an IP VLAN which includes ports 1, 4 and 8. Follow these steps: 1 Activate this protocol based VLAN. 2 Type the port number you want to include in this protocol based VLAN. Type 1. 3 Give this protocol-based VLAN a descriptive name. Type IP-VLAN. 4 Select the protocol. Leave the default value IP. VES1724-56 User's Guide 143
