Troubleshooting Problem System does not function at all What to do • Make sure the power connector is plugged securely into the controller, the bass module power cord is plugged securely into the bass module, and the power pack and power cord are plugged into operating AC wall outlets. • Be sure to select a source (SAT, VCR, etc.). • Unplug the music center power pack for a minute, then reconnect it. This allows the unit to reset itself after a power surge or power interruption. No sound • Make sure the audio input cable is connected to the controller BASS MODULE AUDIO OUTPUTs and the multi-pin connector is firmly seated in the bass module jack. • Check the connections for any external components. Make sure to select the correct source for the desired input. • Check the speaker connections. • Increase the volume. • Check to see if MUTE is selected. Press the MUTE key on the remote to unmute the sound. No sound from center speaker • Make sure that the center cube cable is connected at both ends. • Select STEREO+CENTER (3-speaker) or SURROUND (5-speaker) mode. Too much sound from center speaker • In STEREO+CENTER mode, press SURROUND -, to decrease center speaker volume. • Press and hold the STEREO+CENTER (3-speaker) mode key for 10 seconds to restore the factory preset surround volume setting. No sound from surround speakers • Select SURROUND (5-speaker) mode. • Press SURROUND +. • Make sure the video sound source is stereo and surround-encoded, and the component used (TV, VCR, laserdisc player) is stereo. Surround speakers are too loud • In SURROUND mode, press SURROUND -. • Make sure that the left and right front speakers are connected to the front speaker jacks and the left and right surround speakers are connected to the surround speaker jacks. • Press and hold the SURROUND (5-speaker) mode key for 10 seconds to restore the factory preset surround volume setting. Remote control is inconsistent or does not work • Check batteries and their polarity (+ and -). • Operate the remote control closer to the controller. • Aim the remote at the remote sensor. Sound is distorted • Make sure speaker cables are not damaged and the connections are secure. • Reduce the output level from any external components connected to the controller. 20
