Disable System Logging, Send System Messages to a Syslog Server

www.dell.com | support.dell.com Disable System Logging By default, logging is enabled and log messages are sent to the logging buffer, all terminal lines, console, and syslog servers. Enable and disable system logging using the following commands: Task Disable all logging except on the console. Disable logging to the logging buffer. Disable logging to terminal lines. Disable console logging. Command Syntax Command Mode no logging on CONFIGURATION no logging buffer CONFIGURATION no logging monitor CONFIGURATION no logging console CONFIGURATION Send System Messages to a Syslog Server Send system messages to a syslog server by specifying the server with the following command: Task Specify the server to which you want to send system messages. You can configure up to eight syslog servers. Command Syntax logging {ip-address | hostname} Command Mode CONFIGURATION Configure a Unix System as a Syslog Server Configure a UNIX system as a syslog server by adding the following lines to /etc/syslog.conf on the Unix system and assigning write permissions to the file. • on a 4.1 BSD UNIX system, add the line: local7.debugging /var/log/ftos.log • on a 5.7 SunOS UNIX system, add the line: local7.debugging /var/adm/ftos.log In the lines above, local7 is the logging facility level and debugging is the severity level. 58 | Management
