BEFORE SETTING SURFACE CONTROLS Before operating the cooktop, check for proper burner cap placement Visually check for proper burner cap placement before operating any of the surface burners (See Fig.1). Using the griddle (some models) Before first use: • Wash griddle in hot soapy water. • Rinse and dry completely. To prevent flare-ups and avoid creation of harmful by-products, do not use the cooktop without all burner caps properly installed to insure proper ignition and gas flame size. To avoid possible burns DO NOT touch burner caps or surface burner grates after using any of the surface burners. The surface burner grates, caps, and areas around them may still be very hot. Provide sufficient time for these areas and the parts to completely cool before handling. If any of the surface burner caps appears to be resting unevenly, not centered or appears unlevel on the burner head (Fig. 2), be sure to correct the burner cap position on the burner head before starting the surface burner. Using the griddle: Remove the center burner grate (some models) and carefully replace with the griddle. For best results, preheat the griddle for 5 minutes on medium or a medium low setting. Slow preheating provides more even heat distribution during the cooking process. Do not preheat the griddle on Hi setting. Preheating using a Hi burner setting may warp the griddle and prevent even heat distribution. After each use: • To prevent possible rusting, store in a dry place and keep uncovered. • After each use, clean with a stiff brush and hot water only, then rinse. • Dry immediately. • Do not clean griddle in the dishwasher.
