Setup configures only enough connectivity for management of the system. *Note: setup is mainly used for configuring the system initially, when no configuration is present. Accessing the Switch After the initial configuration, you can access the switch in a number of ways: • Serial console access-You can use a serial port connection to access the CLI. • Out-of-band access-You can use Telnet or SSH to access a Cisco Nexus 5000 Series switch or use the Cisco Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) or the Cisco MDS 9000 Fabric Manager application to connect to the switch using SNMP and XML. Additional Switch Configuration Assigning a Switch Name Each switch in the network requires a unique name. You can assign names to easily identify the switch by its physical location, its network association, or the organization to which it is deployed.
