Configuring NTP Configuring the Switch server. You would configure peer association between these two sets, which forces the clock to be more reliable. • If you only have one server, it is better for all the switches to have a client association with that server. Not even a server down time will affect well-configured switches in the network. The following figure displays a network with two NTP stratum 2 servers and two switches. Figure 6: NTP Peer and Server Association In this configuration, the switches were configured as follows: • Stratum 2 Server 1 ◦ IPv4 address-10.10.10.10 ◦ Stratum-2 Server-2 ◦ IPv4 address-10.10.10.9 • Switch 1 IPv4 address-10.10.10.1 • Switch 1 NTP configuration commands switch(config)# ntp server 10.10.10.10 switch(config)# ntp peer 10.10.10.2 • Switch 2 IPv4 address-10.10.10.2 • Switch 2 NTP configuration commands switch(config)# ntp server 10.10.10.9 switch(config)# ntp peer 10.10.10.1 Configuring NTP You can configure NTP using either IPv4 addresses, IPv6 addresses, or Domain Name Services (DNS) names.
