5 WHEELCHAIR OPERATION 5.9 Independent Battery Charger ƽ WARNING DO NOT use an independent charger with an output rating of over 8A (amps). Otherwise, damage may occur. For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 13 on page 61. The charger port located on the Front of the joystick requires the use of an independent charger. The independent charger is NOT supplied with the wheelchair. Tool Battery Charger REQUIRED ITEMS Quantity 1 Comments Supplied 1. Attach the battery charger connector to the charger port on the joystick. 2. Plug the charger's AC power cord, or extension, into the grounded 120 VAC wall outlet. 3. Wait until charging is complete. Allow eight hours for normal charging. Larger batteries (greater than 55 ampere-hours) or severely discharged batteries may require up to sixteen hours to be properly charged and equalized. It is advantageous to recharge frequently rather than only when necessary. In fact, a battery's life is extended if the charge level is maintained well above a low condition.
